How to Set Up Google Analytics Integration
Connecting Google Analytics to RatingFlow lets you track detailed visitor behavior and funnel performance. Here's how to set it up step by step.
What is Google Analytics Integration?
Google Analytics is a free web analytics service that tracks and reports website traffic. By integrating it with RatingFlow, you can see detailed data about your review page visitors including how long they stay, where they click, what devices they use, and much more. This data goes beyond what RatingFlow's built-in analytics provide, giving you deeper insights.
Before You Start
To set up this integration, you need a Google Analytics account. If you don't have one:
Go to analytics.google.com and sign in with your Google account.
Click Start measuring and follow the setup wizard to create your account and property.
When asked what you want to measure, select Web.
You'll receive a Measurement ID that looks like G-XXXXXXXXXX. This is what you'll need for RatingFlow.
Finding Your Google Analytics Measurement ID
If you already have Google Analytics but need to find your Measurement ID:
Step 1: Go to analytics.google.com and sign in.
Step 2: Click Admin at the bottom left of the page.
Step 3: In the Property column, select the property you want to use or create a new one specifically for your RatingFlow reviews.
Step 4: Click Data Streams under the Property column.
Step 5: Click on your web data stream or create a new one if needed.
Step 6: You'll see your Measurement ID at the top right. It starts with G- followed by numbers and letters. Copy this ID.
Adding Google Analytics to RatingFlow
Now that you have your Measurement ID, add it to RatingFlow:
Step 1: Log in to your RatingFlow dashboard.
Step 2: Select the business you want to track from the dropdown menu in the sidebar.
Step 3: Click on Integrations in the sidebar menu.
Step 4: Find the Google Analytics section. You'll see a field labeled Google Analytics Measurement ID.
Step 5: Paste your Measurement ID into the field. Make sure to include the G- prefix.
Step 6: Click Save Changes.
That's it! Google Analytics is now tracking your review page.
Verifying the Integration Works
To confirm everything is working:
Step 1: Open your review page by clicking your review link or scanning your QR code.
Step 2: In a separate browser tab, go to analytics.google.com and navigate to Reports, then Realtime.
Step 3: You should see yourself as an active user on the site. If you see your visit appearing in the realtime report, the integration is working correctly.
If you don't see any activity, wait a few minutes and refresh. Sometimes there's a slight delay. If it still doesn't work, double-check that you copied the Measurement ID correctly.
What Data You Can See
Once integrated, Google Analytics tracks:
Page Views: How many times your review page was viewed.
Session Duration: How long visitors stay on your review page.
Bounce Rate: Percentage of visitors who leave without interacting.
Device Information: Detailed breakdown of devices, operating systems, and browsers.
Geographic Location: Where your visitors are located by city, region, and country.
Traffic Sources: More detailed breakdown of where visitors come from.
User Flow: The path visitors take through your review page.
Using Google Analytics Data
Here's how to use the data effectively:
Check Session Duration: If average session duration is under 30 seconds, visitors aren't spending enough time to complete a review. Your page might be loading slowly or the instructions might be unclear.
Monitor Device Performance: Compare bounce rates across devices. If mobile has a much higher bounce rate than desktop, your mobile experience needs improvement.
Analyze Geographic Data: See where your reviews are coming from. If you have multiple locations, this helps you understand which locations are most active in collecting reviews.
Study Traffic Sources: See exactly which channels drive the most traffic and which ones convert best into actual reviews.
Removing the Integration
If you want to disconnect Google Analytics:
Go to Integrations in your RatingFlow dashboard.
Find the Google Analytics Measurement ID field.
Delete the Measurement ID from the field.
Click Save Changes.
Google Analytics will stop tracking your review page immediately.
Privacy Considerations
Google Analytics collects anonymous visitor data to help you understand behavior patterns. No personally identifiable information from your review submissions is sent to Google Analytics. The integration only tracks page visits and interactions, not the content of reviews or any custom field responses customers provide.
If you operate in regions with strict privacy laws like GDPR in Europe, make sure your Google Analytics setup complies with local regulations. You may need to add cookie consent notices to your website.
